The Kiwanis Day Care Center is a year-round educational and child care program offering a variety of different activities for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Our program provides children with age-appropriate opportunities for intellectual, emotional, social and physical growth in a stimulating atmosphere which promotes growth and development.  Children are provided free-play time which promotes freedom of expression along with structured time activities which promote a child’s ability to follow through with tasks and conform to rules.

All classroom teachers prepare and post daily/weekly class lesson plans and activity plans.  The typical day, based on daily/weekly unit plans, blend both large and small group activities.  Class Unit and Lesson Plans include the following activities.

  • Language and Math activities
  • Art
  • Music and Movement
  • Science
  • Physical Activities through outside and inside play
  • Parent involvement programs
  • Social Skills

A library is available for all age levels throughout the day in each classroom. Field trips are scheduled periodically to enhance learning and exploration of the world in which the children live.

Center programs are well balanced to include quiet time, free choice, group activities and creative expression.

An assessment is completed on each child throughout the stages of their development. This assessment will indicate growth and development of each child with respect to fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social skills, learning abilities, acquisition skills, etc.

The center recognizes that children learn through modeling, sharing, cooperating with others and by example. Our staff strives to enhance each child’s experiences while in care.

Infants

Six weeks old to 23 months

Newborn babies require constant care to thrive. At Kiwanis Day Care Center, we have a low teacher-to-child ratio for this age to provide all the care needed. Even from this early age, children are constantly learning and exploring the world around them. Our infant care is designed to provide our babies with a safe, nurturing environment to learn and grow.

Since infant needs vary greatly, we ask parents to provide all of the items needed for your baby's care, including diapers, wipes, extra clothing, and formula or breast milk.  We keep you informed of your baby's day using a form left in your child's locker.

Your baby hasn't arrived yet? It's not too early to put him/her on our waiting list. Contact us to reserve your baby's spot today!

Toddlers

(2 years to 3 years old)

Toddlers are energetic and curious! They love exploring the world around them. The staff at Kiwanis Day Care Center works hard to encourage a lifetime of learning by providing a safe, stimulating environment for our toddlers. We provide a bit more structure for this age level, teaching children cooperation, self-control and sharing, as well as many other life skills. But, we have FUN with age-appropriate crafts, music, stories and other activities.

When weather permits, we take our toddlers out of the building to enjoy the outdoors on our fenced playground, and occasionally on walks through the neighborhood.

We ask that you provide diapers or pull-ups for your child (if needed) and keep a seasonal change of clothing in case of accidents. We keep parents updated about the day's activities, as well as upcoming special events, using our daily report form. You will find the form in your child's locker each day.

Pre-K

(4-5 years old)

Our Pre-K program is specifically designed to get your child ready for Kindergarten. It is more structured than younger classrooms but still focuses on learning in a fun, safe environment. In addition to learning letters, numbers, shapes and other school-related facts, we also work to teach cooperation, self-control and how to act in a classroom. These skills will provide a solid foundation for their elementary school years and beyond.

Kiwanis Day Care Center collaborates with the Cabell County Schools to offer our Pre-K program. Our program is five days per week from 8 am until 1 pm and follows the Cabell County Schools calendar

Elementary

(Kindergarten - 12 years old)

Working parents need a safe supportive place to care for their elementary-age children when school is not in session. Kiwanis Day Care Center provides programs for elementary school students that help them in school and are just FUN!  During the school year, we provide nutritious after-school snacks, homework help, and fun age-appropriate activities. We are also available for snow days, early outs and scheduled days off school. We provide educational opportunities for our elementary student through field trips and hands-on learning experiences.

During the summer, our elementary program includes fun activities on site, as well as field trips. We provide a weekly calendar of events for your convenience.

Contact us to sign your elementary age child up for after school or summer care.
